Mr. J. Michael Thompson

Choral Literature

J. Michael Thompson has his undergraduate degree in music history and German from Lawrence University, Appleton, Wisconsin, and his master’s degree in Church Music from Concordia University, River Forest, IL.  He was associate professor of ecclesiastical chant at the Byzantine Catholic Seminary, Pittsburgh PA, from 2001-2008, and has recently retired as  instructor of music at Butler County Community College, Butler, PA. 

 

He founded the ensemble “The Schola Cantorum of St. Peter’s in the Loop,” which became “The Schola Cantorum of St. Peter the Apostle” in 1999. With the Schola he has made over 50 recordings of liturgical music.  His compositions and arrangements have been published by World Library Publications, GIA Publications, Oregon Catholic Press, Concordia, Augsburg-Fortress, and earthsongs (Corvallis, OR). His published books are available from Liguori Publications and World Library Publications. He currently is the tenor section leader at St. Jude Parish, Pittsburgh, PA, and the founder/director of the Ambrose-Romanos Singers, a professional ensemble which sings music from both the eastern and western Churches in their original liturgical context.
