Dr. Katherine Meloan

Organ

Praised by The Classical Voice of North Carolina for her “ability to couple precision with emotion … Meloan's charm is her ability to draw in listeners … never once excluding listeners from her passion.”  Organist Katherine Meloan is an artist whose various interests, expressive gifts, and eclectic repertoire enable her to contribute to the musical world with distinctive and friendly performances. 
 

Some of Dr. Meloan’s recent engagements include Temple Church and Saint George’s, Hanover Square in London; The Cadet Chapel at The United States Military Academy in West Point, New York; National Cathedral in Washington D.C.; Florida International University - Wertheim Concert Hall in Miami, Florida.  In addition, she is a frequent performer at the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina and in Europe on the historical organs of Clicquot (Poitiers) and Cavaillé-Coll (Epernay). 
 

Katherine currently teaches organ performance at the Sacred Music Institute of America, in which she mostly teaches in the online setting.  Dr. Meloan has also taught at Manhattan School of Music where she developed an organ class as a part of her thesis.  Her organ class introduced and developed organ performance skills to pianists, composers, and conductors who are entering the sacred music field.  Many of her students attend college, university, and conservatory programs in organ across the country.  She has an active interest in recruiting new organists and assists with The American Guild of Organists, Committee on Education Programming.     
 

Dr. Meloan also has an active career in church music.  She is equally versed in the Presbyterian, Methodist and Baptist traditions as well as the more liturgical traditions of the Catholic and Lutheran Church.  Katherine is currently Associate Director of Music/Organist at First United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls, Texas where she directs The Elizabeth Prothro Organ Concert Series, accompanies the chancel choir and plays the 81-rank Garland organ for all services.  She has also served as Director of Chapel Music at The United States Merchant Marine Academy where directed The Mariner Chapel choir and The Mariners’ Chorus.  The Mariners’ Chorus has sung at such events: The Festival of Lights Holiday Concert with the United States Merchant Marine Academy Regimental Band, and off-campus concerts with The United States Coast Guard Academy Glee Club and The Choir of the Cadet Chapel –United States Military Academy.  
In addition to gracing the musical stage, Katherine is also a classical dancer.  She has performed with Ballet Long Island, Staten Island Ballet, and International Folk Dance Ensemble and has performed variations from ballets such as: Sleeping Beauty, Le Corsaire, Paquita, La Bayadere, Chopinania, Swan Lake, and numerous contemporary works. 

 

Katherine is represented by Concert Artist Cooperative and has degrees (B.A) from Florida International University (magna cum laude) in piano and Manhattan School of Music (MM, DMA) in organ.  Her performance has garnered the Outstanding Music Performance Award from Florida International University and the Bronson Ragan Award in outstanding organ performance from Manhattan School of Music.  Go to: KatherineMeloan.com for more information.
